Kehillah Synagogue

Overview and Relationship to the Board:

• Report to the Board of Directors through the President(s). The Executive Director (ED) is a non-voting ex officio member of the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors.
• Is accountable for all non-Rabbinic internal operations of the Kehillah.
• Work with the Rabbi and Board of Directors to further each year’s goals and the approaches to attain these goals
• Serve as a resource to advise the Board on Kehillah’s facilities, finances, membership, and other important areas.
• Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.

Administration:
• Manage the day to day operations of Kehillah
• Keep up to date Kehillah documentation, including SOP's, Employee Handbook, Board manual, and the organizational chart
• Implement the policies of Kehillah as established by the Board and committees
• Oversee the computer, calendar, and data management systems
• Hire, supervise, train, evaluate, and manage Kehillah senior and office non-rabbinic personnel
• Design and conduct regular staff meetings
• Act as staff liaison to the Board and Executive Committees, and directly supervise the Director, Kehillah Preschool, the Director of Education, and the Director of Finance and Operations.

Risk Management:
• Ensures that Kehillah operates in such a way as to minimize risk of various types.
• Conducts annual review of insurance coverages (liability, property, etc. etc.)
• Ensures that all employee discipline is conducted according to best practices and ensures that Kehillah is not at risk for citations resulting from charges of discrimination with EEOC, OSHA and other government entities.
• Ensures that local city and county compliance with inspections are current
• Initiates and manages all responses regarding property issues, including working to ensure that property tax bills are accurate.

Finances:
• Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures best possible resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position. Responsible for negotiating, signing all notes, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into and on behalf of Kehillah Synagogue.
• Develop the annual budget in consultation with the treasurer, finance committee, and Board
• Manage Kehillah finances, including income and expenses, throughout the year
• Work with members who request adjusted dues
• Oversee the financial system including payroll, benefits, taxes, utilities contracts, credit cards, check requests, accounts payables, accounts receivables, and insurance. Signs checks.

Facilities Oversight
• Ensure all major facilities issues, including HVAC, water leaks, and major building repairs
• Ensure that the facilities are well maintained and safe.
• Ensure rental contracts and relationships with renters are handled appropriately.

Programming & Membership:
• Provide services and outreach to members and prospective members
• Provide services and outreach to families of those being buried in Kehillah’s cemetery
• Support Kehillah functions in their planning and implementation
• Provide committees with staff support as appropriate
• Encourage volunteer involvement in programming, services, and other needs
• Provide training opportunities for Board members, committee chairs, and committee members

Fundraising:
• Work with the VP of Development and appropriate committees for fundraising and developing other revenues necessary to support Kehillah’s mission, services, programs and operations.
• Conceptualize, plan, develop and implement fundraising activities for Kehillah in cooperation with the Board’s VP of Advancement
• Build enthusiasm and support in creating a culture of giving at Kehillah

Communication & Relationships:
• Foster a warm and caring environment so that congregants, potential members, and staff feel welcomed, respected, nurtured, and appreciated
• Manage marketing efforts, including publicizing Kehillah through oversight of the web site, newsletter, other Kehillah publications, and publicity to the larger community
• Working with the Rabbi, President and Board of Directors the ED should help to establish cooperative relationships with community groups and organizations, including the local Jewish Federation, area synagogues, and the national Reconstructionist organization
• Working with the Rabbi, President and Board of Directors the ED should help to represent the programs and point of view of Kehillah to agencies, organizations, and the general public
